He didn’t even realize he was crying until Dusty climbed back into bed and pulled him close. “Goddammit David, I’m sorry if I hurt you. Why didn’t you tell me to stop?” Dusty sounded pained.

David quickly sat up. “No Dusty, you didn’t hurt me. That was the most amazing thing I have ever felt in my life.”

Dusty reached up and ran his thumb over his cheek. “Then what’s wrong? Why are you crying?”

What his mother and brother had shown him his entire life was not love. Did either of them even know the true meaning of love? Probably not, but sitting here on the bed where he and Dusty slept every night, where they shared their first real kiss. Not that first peck in the hospital, no, the first kiss that consumed David with longing and need. The bed where David had not even an hour ago told Dusty he was falling in love with him. In the bed where they had finally consummated their relationship, David felt more love than he thought he deserved.
